Who would enjoy a CSA?
Anybody who loves amazing tasting, fresh, chemical free food will fall in love the produce we grow. Because not everybody is used to eating (and cooking) regular amounts of healthy produce each week, certain people would especially enjoy a CSA. Take the following quiz to see if you are one of them!
YES or NO? I love local, fresh, seasonal foods.
YES or NO? I’m a creative cook, and I enjoy figuring out how to use food in new ways.
YES or NO? It’s important to me to support local farmers and build a vibrant local food system.
YES or NO? I want to avoid GMOs and chemicals in my food
YES or NO? I like a wide variety of vegetables, including leafy greens, root crops, and everything in between!
If you answered YES to most of the statements we think you will love joining the Paradise Produce Farm’s CSA family.
A CSA may not be a good fit for you at this time if….
– You/your family have lots of foods they don’t like, have allergies to or simply won’t try
– You don’t cook with primarily whole foods
– You only have time to open a package and use the microwave
– You aren’t comfortable experimenting with or cooking new foods or varieties
Can I purchase extra vegetables?
Yes. We also offer transplants. Boxes of certain produce can be special ordered when in season. Just inquire about what you are interested in, and we will give you the box price and quantity. Please be aware that we may not be able to offer large quantities of specific vegetables unless we have an abundance, even though they may be offered consistently in the CSA or at the farmer’s market.
For smaller quantities than boxes please visit us at a farmer’s market that we attend.
Can we visit the farm?
Yes. Please email and set up a time. Due to the massive amount of work that goes in to producing quality vegetables, some times of year may be easier than others. Our location information is here.
Where does the produce come from?
We believe in local, small farm, sustainable produce. This means we care for our plants ourselves from the seedling to finished product. To better serve our CSA members, we occasionally use natural produce from Nashville farms if we cannot provide an item ourselves. This way you will never lack variety and we support other local organic farmers.
Can I choose what goes in my CSA box?
Yes! Our unique Market Style CSA allows you to choose the produce you want to take home in your share. Large shares get to choose 10 items, Medium shares get 6, and Small get 4. This way if your family hates kale, you can choose something else! Each item comes in a set quantity. For example an item might be a half lb bag of baby lettuce, a pint of cherry tomatoes, a bunch of basil, or a lb of cucumbers. Max quantities per share may apply if we have a limited amount of a certain type of produce to ensure everybody gets some. But when the farm has an oversupply of an item, we are sure to set out extra for you.
We also have many wonderful recipes on the website that include the vast majority of vegetables you will be receiving.
What if a share is just too big/expensive/often for me?
We have lots of members that enjoy a CSA in a variety of ways. You can ask a friend or family member to split a share with you. You can split the produce with them each week or you could alternate who picks up each week. To avoid confusion at the pickup site we request that the entire share be taken by the first person picking up the produce. You are responsible for meeting or dividing the shares with whomever you are sharing. Please note that all sized shares are the same value per item per week. You do not gain value by splitting a Large share instead of purchasing two Medium shares. However, you may gain some variety by splitting a Large share as occasionally Large shares have items other shares do not.
Do you offer refunds?
No. When you purchase a CSA you are not just buying produce, you are supporting the small family farm system. You make chemical-free, sustainable farming possible. Each penny goes to support our farm and family and in turn is converted to sweat, dirt, and occasionally tears. Then, in our turn, we can support your family with beautiful natural produce. By purchasing a share you are also claiming a spot in our CSA which somebody else wanted. The payment is a nonrefundable security deposit to ensure membership goes to those who really want it.
What do I do if I cannot make the pickup?
The best choice would be to have a friend or relative pick your box up for you. Just email us approving them for pick up.
Please note that it is not possible to change pickup days or times. Produce is picked on an inflexible schedule for maximum freshness.
Any shares not picked up at the time and location that you sign up for will be donated to charity, put to good use or composted.
